Microsoft continually considers various factors when updating software in order to keep up with its users’ ever-changing needs.
Windows 10 is no exception. The next update, aptly named Spring Creators Update, will be rolled out in April of this year. Windows has some new and improved features in store for you and has been testing this update since late 2017.
Here are a few changes you can expect from this update:
Faster Installation
A common problem in updating your OS is the idle time spent waiting for a couple of hours before being able to use your computer again. Windows now has plans to release updates twice a year and have sped up the installation process.
Sources say that the process of completing the Spring Creators update is much quicker than the updates that came before it. The time you spend waiting has been reduced from 82 minutes to only 30 minutes.
Design
Although a few parts of Windows 10 already showcase Fluent Design, in this update, it will be made evident on even more apps of the OS as well.
You can now see Fluent Design and its “reveal” effect in more areas of the Start menu. If you right-click on a live tile, you will be redirected to the settings of the app. You can now dismiss notifications that come up in the Action Center with just a two-finger swipe. By default, pictures and documents can already be included in the Start hamburger menu.
Overall, the Fluent Design in the Spring Creators update gives more emphasis on motion, light, and depth, making up a more contemporary and free-flowing appearance.
Cortana
You can now build lists and resume apps that are synchronized among different devices as long as they have the Cortana app installed.
Timeline
One notable change that comes with the update is Timeline. It allows you to monitor which apps you ran today or even 30 days before and resume using them – even those you’ve opened from other devices. This feature highlights the convenience of switching from one device to another by quickly picking up where you left off.
Microsoft Edge
In this update, audio that comes from specific tabs can now be muted on Microsoft Edge. It now allows you to save free EPUB books alongside new features on its user interface.
S Mode
S Mode will now be available across all editions of Windows 10. It is a lighter version of the OS, which allows downloads strictly from the Microsoft Store alone to lessen your software’s susceptibility to malicious content.
Near Share
The Spring Creators update will also include a feature that allows you to share files with other nearby devices using Bluetooth. This feature applies to all apps containing the Share function and lets you share photos, web pages, and other files wirelessly.
Settings
You can now manage fonts in Settings and download and install them from the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft also now lets you remove diagnostic data gathered from your device with just one click. If Focus Assist is enabled, you can choose which apps send notifications. Download bandwidth can also be controlled for updates in the foreground.
These are just some of the many new features included in the Spring Creators Update, which is due to be released anytime soon. So you better get ready for these exciting changes.
