Enhanced Immersion

The HP Reverb G2 is designed to provide a high-end VR experience focusing on user comfort. Key features that contribute to its immersive capabilities include:

  • Four Camera Tracking: The Reverb G2 enhances tracking with four built-in cameras, offering 1.4x more movement capture than previous Windows VR headsets. This inside-out tracking system provides a greater range of motion without the need for external sensors.
  • Visual Fidelity: The Reverb G2 delivers exceptional visual clarity with 2160×2160 per-eye resolution and optimized LCD panels. These “mura-free” panels offer improved contrast and brightness, resulting in a superior visual experience. The headset maintains a 114-degree field of view, providing a 250% improvement in visual resolution per degree compared to the Oculus Rift S.
  • Spatial Audio: Developed in collaboration with Valve, the Reverb G2 features integrated 3D spatial audio headphones. These speakers sit 10mm off the ears, creating a heightened sense of immersion. The headset is compatible with Microsoft spatial audio and HP Labs’ new spatial audio format, which utilizes artificial intelligence and psychoacoustics.

Ergonomics

The headset was created for users exposed to long periods of use, which is why the G2 version has deepened into comfort. HP has increased the cushion of the facemask for even more weight distribution. Also, it includes a replaceable face gasket to ease their cleaning (optional) and a 90° adjustable flip-up facemask display to transition between VT and the real world easily.

The updated design includes a thumbstick, two face buttons, an application button, an analog trigger, and a grip trigger. These controllers are also compatible with older versions of Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) devices and are sold separately.

Release Date and Availability

The HP Reverb G2 was planned for release in Fall 2020. It was initially available for pre-order in the United States through HP.com for a retail price of $599. HP stated pre-orders for other selected countries would become available in the following months.
