OnePlus follows a timetable when it comes to releasing their phones. They launch two smartphones a year. The major release happens in spring followed by an updated version of the previous unit during the fall.
It’s almost time for a new OnePlus phone. This time around, the brand is launching the OnePlus 6, which brings some of the most appealing mobile specs all at a budget-friendly price.
Release Date
Following the brand’s annual timetable, the OnePlus 6 will be launched in May. Its release date will be in June. The predecessors of the brand’s new flagship phone, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 5, were both released in June of their respective years.
But there are also rumors saying that the launch and release dates will be a month early. Apparently, OnePlus has run out of stock of the 5T in the United States and Europe. They need to start selling new phones to replace the 5T, so that leaves the door wide open for the OnePlus 6.
Price
It seems that the cost of the OnePlus 6 will be the highest that the cell phone manufacturer has ever charged for a flagship phone. Just how much each unit will cost is still unknown, but everything points to it being more expensive than the OnePlus 5. The most recent price leaks for mobile phones indicate that the cost of the OnePlus 6 will be between $520 (for the 64GB model) and $749 (for the confirmed 256GB model). A small price increase isn’t really a surprise given that the specs rumored to be on the OnePlus 6 are more advanced than what is found on last year’s phone.
Design
OnePlus has long been noted for delivering flagship-level specs minus the flagship price tag. But that doesn’t happen without a few concessions. In particular, the phone’s physical features. But if the rumors are true, one of those cracks will finally be sealed as the OnePlus 6 may be the first OnePlus model to be water-resistant.
The brand is seemingly joining the notch bandwagon as well. The company stated on its official discussion boards that the OnePlus 6 will feature a notch similar to the iPhone X. The reports claimed the notch allows a bigger screen-to-body ratio and a more practical placement of the selfie camera. OnePlus also stated that its software has been improved to function around the notch.
As for the phone’s body, it seems the OnePlus 6 will look a lot like its predecessor. Leaked photos present a brushed aluminum framework and an eye-catching wood-grain, gray rear panel. Other images also indicate a glass back, so it’s likely that there will be different designs available for the OnePlus 6.
Specs and Software
Released benchmarks imply that the OnePlus 6 will use Snapdragon 845 from Qualcomm. This is the same chip that is likely to be used in every other flagship unit that will be released this year. It’s also safe to say that OnePlus will include the latest internal hardware with the new phone, much like what they’ve done with earlier generations.
As for the software, there is no official information yet. There haven’t been any leaks, either, although it’s probably safe to assume that the OnePlus 6 will have the same Android software that the brand has been using since 2014.
