Every gadget has its own weakness. At times it’s the poor quality of the camera, other times it’s an awful interface. However, most of the time, the culprit is its battery life. Carrying a charger everywhere you go is an inconvenience, especially if your device is a tablet.
With a phone’s battery, we’ve come to expect that we should always bring a charger. But a tablet is different matter. In most cases, they are left on the side, waiting for our next break or spare time.
Thankfully, extending the life of an unused Android tablet is possible. Read on for tips on how to do so.
1. Background Data Sync (BDS)
According to experts who sell electronics, one reason why a tablet’s battery is easily drained is because of its background data. Even if you’re not using your device, it still receives notifications from all the apps you’ve uploaded.
The usual notifications include social media and email alerts. Often, you don’t actually need alerts, particularly if you always have your smartphone with you.To prevent background data from draining your tablet’s battery, you can disable the “busy app notifications.” This is a guaranteed fix if your tablet is running an Android 5 Lollipop OS.
Otherwise, you can just disable the entire notifications of your tablet. To do this, simply block “Interruptions.”
2. Power Control Widget (PCW)
Though often overlooked, the Power Control Widget is an Android feature that is very useful in extending the battery life of a tablet. It can easily adjust, enable, or disable the gadget’s notorious battery drainers: Wi-Fi, GPS, BDS, Screen Brightness, and Bluetooth.
When you activate the Power Control Widget, you can use it to tweak any or all battery drainers. The great thing about this tactic is it can work no matter what version of Android you have on your tablet. The PCW’s features remain the same regardless if your OS is Gingerbread or Lollipop or any version in between.
Moreover, disabling the gadget’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can also protect your device from harmful viruses.
3. Lollipop’s Battery Saver
With Android 5.0, Google integrated a feature called “Battery Saver.” As the name implies, it helps in reducing the energy footprint of an Android tablet. To enable this feature, just:
Open the tablet’s “Battery” settings.
Choose “Battery Saver.”
Once the feature is enabled, it will disable all battery drainers on your tablet. This includes transparent effects and animations. It will also limit the tablet’s vibration.
Battery Saver is considered the last resort to prolong the battery life of an Android tablet. It’s not a feature recommended for use at all times since it essentially turns off several important features on the gadget.
Experts recommend to roll-off the Battery Saver when the battery gets down to 15 percent or less. Once you’re able to plug-in and charge your device, you can disable the feature again. If you have version 5.0 on your tablet, enabling the Battery Saver is a good choice. However, try to use the easier approaches first before cutting your gadget’s features in half.
