Based on experts who sell iPhones, the keyboard of the flagship device of Apple delivers several hidden tricks to help you type a lot faster. iPads provide numerous hidden techniques as well. Read on for some tips on how to type faster on your Apple gadgets.

  • Type a period (.) by double-tapping the space bar.

Once you get to the end of your message, you no longer need to hit the small period button to complete your sentence. Instead, double tap the space bar to add the punctuation mark. A space will also appear so you’re able to continue keying in the next sentence in your message.

  • Key in common internet addresses and their suffixes (.com, .org, .net, etc.) with ease.

Quickly type site addresses simply by long-pressing the period button. You may do this with some of the most common net suffixes such as .com, .net, .org, and .edu. Hover your finger over the web address you wish to key in and type the right suffix to input your choice. Note that this trick may not work 100 percent in all iPhone applications, but it’s guaranteed to work well with Safari.

  • Insert a character (number and symbol) with a single tap.

A lot of iPhone users key in a character by hitting the 123 button, then choosing the number or symbol, and then hitting the 123 button once more to return to the main letter board. For a guaranteed shortcut, hit the 123 button and press your finger down on the gadget screen. Without removing your pressed finger, move it to the number or symbol you need to key in. Once your choice is made, lift your finger from the screen.

  • Divide the keyboard of an iPad in half.

If you prefer to type your messages using your thumbs on your Apple tablet, put two of your fingers on the tablet’s keyboard and pull them apart. One-half of the keypad will show up at the left side of the display screen so the second half can be used for more convenient typing with your thumbs. To revert to the original, full-width screen, put a finger on each side of the split screen and simply move them together.

  • Add other symbols.

The keyboards of both the iPhone and the iPad contain a number of symbols and icons that rarely show up unless you know how to look for them. For instance, you can key in the cent sign (¢) by pressing the dollar sign longer than usual. To know more about these hidden symbols and icons, use the long-press technique on each letter.

  • On/off the Caps Lock feature.

The Caps Lock is typically a feature that few smartphone users tap since typing in all caps denotes shouting. But if you wish to type in all caps, simply hit the “Shift” button twice. Do the same if you want to go back to using small letters.

  • Shake your gadget to “Undo.”

If you want to delete a previously typed message or paste and cut a text, shake your Apple gadget to access the “Undo” button. This option is non-existent on the keypad, so you have to literally shake your gadget to make it appear. Exploring your gadget’s keyboard when you have spare time will help you discover and familiarize yourself with useful tips to make typing a lot faster and convenient.
