Announcement almost by surprise. Google today launched the Chromebook Pixel, a computer that is far removed from the rest of Chromebooks on the market. First, because it is not associated with any other brand in the world of computing. It is a 100% Google. Second, because it is much more expensive than the rest of his “brothers”. It goes on sale in the U.S. next week for $ 1,299. What do you buy with that?

For starters, a machine with a curious design of sharp angles and made of aluminum. The 16:9 screen is not like most laptops, but 3:2, somewhat less landscape. It has a resolution of 2,560 x1, 700 pixels and a density of 239 pixels per inch, higher hitherto used in a portable (slightly above the density of the retina Macbook Apple).

Unlike other Chromebook this has plenty of power, with Intel Core i5 processor, and comes with 32 or 64 GB solid memory. It may seem little but one advantage is that Google offers 1 TB of storage in Google Drive over the next three years. The company also will release a model equipped with LTE connection.

Most importantly, the new computer is that, as rumored, the screen is touch. Allows touch, sweeps to move forward or backward in the browser and zoom with two fingers, as on tablets.

ChromeOS can not install applications “native” and relies on a catalog webapps, but Google says that the catalog is growing significantly.
