The Dell Precision 7550 laptop was released in 2020 and still remains one of our favorite mobile workstations today. The model features powerful NVIDIA Quadro graphics, 10th generation Intel processors, and sophisticated software. Thanks to its powerful hardware, the Precision 7550 is a great office addition for creative professionals (animators and designers), architects, engineers, IT specialists, and many more. In fact, it could easily replace a desktop computer.

Let’s explore the Dell Precision 7550 features closer.

Dell Precision 7550 Specfications

One thing about mobile workstations is that their performance is highly personalized based on your work needs. Therefore, you have a wide range of configurations to choose from:

Processors

Dell offers the following options:

  • Intel Core i7-10750H (six compute cores, 12MB Cache, 2.60 GHz base speed to 5.00 GHz, 45W vPro).
  • Intel Core i7-10875H (Octa-Core, 16MB Cache, 2.30 GHz to 5.10 GHz, 45W vPro).
  • Intel Xeon W-10855M processor (six cores, 12MB Cache, 2.80 GHz to 5.10 GHz, 45W, vPro)

Dedicated Graphics

Dell Precision 7550 can come with the following GPU’s:

  • NVIDIA Quadro T1000, with 4GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • NVIDIA Quadro T2000, 4GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000, 8GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000, 16GB GDDR6

Storage Options

The possibilities are nearly endless here, but the Precision 7550 workstation supports up to to 6TB high-speed storage (three 2TB M.2 SSD drives)! As for RAM, 128GB of standard or error-correcting code (ECC) DRAM is maximum supported.

Display Options

Again, Dell gives quite a few options here. Precision 7550 is a 15.6-inch model. As for types of panels, you can select between five different configurations, ranging from FHD 1080p resolution to 4K (3840 x 2160). The touchscreen option is available as well. For those unsure which type to pick, we recommend our QHD vs. FHD post for more details.

I/O Ports

The Dell Precision 7550 mobile workstation comes with an outstanding ports selection.

On the left side, we have:

  • Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Thunderbolt 3.0 Type C ports;
  •  Smart Card Reader.

On the right side:

  • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 with Powershare;
  • SD Card Reader;
  • Universal Audio Jack;
  • Cable Lock.

And finally on the back:

  • Mini DP 1.4;
  • HDMI 2.0;
  • RJ-45;
  • DC jack.

As you can see, this laptop has everything you need to stay productive on the go.

Dell Precision 7550 Design

Dell took the “less is more” approach here. As a result, this workstation features a solid and robust design. The laptop is sturdy, and it will look elegant on your desk. The model has a minimalistic square-cut chassis, tapered silver aluminum slab, and the Dell logo on the lid is glass reflective.

Compared to the Dell Precision 5550 15.6-inch model, the Precision 7550 is visibly larger and heavier. This device measures 1.08 x 14.2 x 9.5 inches and weighs 5.42 lb (2.45kg).

Dell Precision 7550: Performance and Features

As we have established, the Dell Precision 7550 workstation laptop offers you everything you need to stay productive and more. With its 10th Gen Intel processors, including a Xeon option paired with powerful NVIDIA Quadro series graphics, the laptop can run CAD and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite without a snag.

The Precision 7550 is a high-speed, powerful workstation laptop. It is an excellent choice for architects, designers, video editors, and 3D animators who work with elaborate power-demanding software. As a result, the Precision 7550 offers stable performance without lagging or overheating.

Dell Optimizer is yet another great feature this laptop sports. It is an Artificial Intelligence platform to fine-tune the system for your most-used apps and programs. Moreover, the Dell SupportAssist handles stuff like downloads, removing junk files, and improving your network connection. To top it all, the model features the ExpressSign-in, a sensor that detects your presence to instantly wake the system up and log you in via the IR camera and Windows Hello. All without lifting a finger! In addition, it locks the computer when you walk away to keep your work safe.

Other hardware features include ExpressResponse, ExpressCharge, and Intelligent Audio.  These perks are a part of the built-in AI platform and are centered around the optimized user experience.

Dell Precision 7550 Keyboard

The keyboard is roomy and stretches from edge to edge. It is very comfortable for typing and offers great tactile feedback. The model comes with a full-size keyboard, meaning you have the numeric pad on your right for a desktop-like experience and added comfort. In addition, the power button at the top right doubles as a fingerprint reader.

However, there is no backlit color selection, but after all, the Precision 7550 is not a gaming laptop. Although, it definitely could double as one. All configurations come with a white backlit color option.

We are also happy to report that this laptop’s trackpad is adequately sized, allowing for gesture precision and accuracy. And it has a nice matte finish, comfortable to touch. In addition, the touchpad is made of magnesium alloy material that is less prone to fingerprints and smudges. The magnesium alloy helps to minimize the weight of the laptop, but it’s also more resistant to heat. You are less likely to feel the heat coming from the computer as a result.

Used Dell Precision Laptop Trade-in Value

The resale value of any device depends on the model, configuration, cosmetic and functional condition. However, considering the Dell Precision 7550 is still a pretty new model, its resale price is in a higher range. And the good news is that we already accept the Precision 7550 models.
