Microsoft Windows 11 isn’t here yet, but we will likely see it later in November this year. It has been a while since Windows 10 first came out, six years to be precise. And PC users are long overdue for a new operative system. But should you be upgrading just yet?

Windows 11 Release: What to Expect

Microsoft supposedly simplified the Windows 11 design to amplify the UI and thus boost your productivity. And from the first photos emerging on the internet, the new Windows 11 seems to look more like an Android mobile OS version with its refreshed apps and icons. Overall, it looks cleaner with its rounded corners and pastel blue color scheme.

The confirmed changes are:

  • The Start button has been moved to the center of the desktop screen.
  • The Chat feature from Microsoft Teams gets integrated into the taskbar.
  • Customized Widgets feature Microsoft reviewed from the old Vista version.
  • Microsoft implements some of the Xbox features, like Directx 12 UltimateAuto HDR, and DirectStorage, into the new Windows 11 for a better gaming and visual experience.

To match the updated look, Windows 11 gets new sound notifications, including the new startup chime.

Working and Studying from Home in Windows 11

Technology is more crucial to us now, as many of us continue to study and work from home in the pandemic aftermath. And the new Windows 11 is set to create a supportive hybrid environment by offering a more streamlined computing experience and enhanced security.

For example, Microsoft Office will become more visual, including the possibility of switching to Dark mode within the program. And the corporate favorite Microsoft Teams app will allow users to share their desktop screens during meetings directly from the taskbar.

These and more seemingly minor improvements will make your remote work and learning experience a little more efficient and thus more enjoyable.

Minimum System Requirements for Windows 11

CPU Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, dual-core minimum

RAM Memory : 4GB RAM

Storage: at least 64GB

System firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable

Graphics card: DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WDDM 2.x

Display: HD Resolution (720p), screen must be larger than 9 inches diagonal

Connectivity: internet connection and a Microsoft account are required Windows 11 setup.

Those who purchase a new PC between now and the official release date are eligible for a free Windows 11 upgrade. Furthermore, current Windows 10 users will also be able to upgrade their software for free.

Windows 11 Release Date

Microsoft has yet to set a release date, but members can download the Beta version through Windows Insider Program. As to the official retail version, we expect to see it around the holidays later in 2021, and it will continue to roll out into 2022.

How to Download Windows 11 Post Release

The upgrade procedure is the same as before. If you run Windows 10 on your desktop computer or a laptop, follow these steps to download Windows 11 once it is available:

  1. Go to Settings – Update & Security – Windows Update.
  2. Click on Check for Updates. You should be able to see the Feature update to Windows 11 here.
  3. Click on Download and install to proceed with the upgrade.

What to Do if Your PC Laptop is Not Eligible for a Free Upgrade

If, for whatever reason, you are not able to download the new Windows 11 version for free once it’s released, but you really want to try it out, it may just make sense to sell your laptop and upgrade. As mentioned above, those who bought a new PC device between now and the release date can easily upgrade to the latest Windows 11.

Microsoft is closely working with brands like DellHPSamsung, and, of course, their own Surface to make sure those PC devices are ready to run Window 11 smoothly.

So, if you have an older laptop computer but looking to upgrade and take advantage of all the new features Windows 11 has to offer, we at Gadget Salvation are more than happy to help you with the estimate or address any questions you might have.

In Conclusion

Most Windows 10 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free sometime after the official release. But if you are anxious to try it out now, you might want to register as a Windows Insider, if you haven’t already, and download the Beta version. Just bear in mind that it will likely be buggy, don’t let it discourage you from upgrading when the time comes.

So, what are the Windows 11 new features you are the most excited about?
