Lenovo trims down their Legion series minimalist look even further by replacing the entire Legion logo with only the iconic Y symbol on the lid.

Lenovo presented its upgraded Legion gaming laptop line at CES 2021 this past January. The company unveiled a whole variety of models, like: Legion 5 15-inch, Legion 5 17-inch, Lenovo 5 Pro and Legion 7 series. The 2021 Legion laptops are equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen processors and NVIDIA GeForce graphics. As to the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, it packs high quality internal hardware components, a turbo-charged dual fan design, and more.

As with previous Legion models, Lenovo combined powerful hardware with a minimalist design, enclosed in sleek and thin chassis. However, in this post we are focusing on the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro AMD Ryzen 7 CPU based laptops.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2021: New Features

Overall, the Legion 5 series laptops got mostly internal hardware updates. The latest version comes with the powerful AMD Ryzen processor and NVIDIA RXT 3000 series graphics. And here is what’s changed:

  • Legion 5 Pro has more of a gaming-oriented design with the backlit Legion logo on its top lid.
  • The laptop got new Coldfront 3.0 thermals, as well as Legion AI Engine, something Legion models never had before. It allows to dynamically shift power between the CPU and GPU.

The Legion 5 Pro is a laptop with an extraordinary performance, capable of running even the most demanding AAA titles. It is equipped with high-end gaming components and brand new technologies, like Coldfront 3.0 and AI Engine.

Legion 5 Pro: Design 

Actually, an overall look of the new Legion 5 Pro hasn’t changed all that much. A crisp design with an aluminum case in “Storm Gray” finish works out great both for gaming and work needs. The dimensions, however, got slightly bigger due to a larger 16-inch screen: it gained 0.4-in diagonal. The weight hasn’t changed though: it is still a 5.4 lbs laptop.

Enjoy even more immersive gaming experience with the unique 16-inch QHD display. You’ll benefit from vivid rendering in action with its super-fast 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time. It has 100% sRGB color gamut, HDR 400 support, Dolby Vision, VESA Display and 34% increased pixel density. And supports NVIDIA G-Sync.

These specs make the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro model perfect for content creators, as it’s display provides 500 nits brightness and 100% sRGB color accuracy. In addition, the display has anti-glare treatment which actually works out quite nicely while playing games, it does not impact the color at all.

Overall, the Legion 5 Pro is a great laptop for playing eSport games.

Performance

Because of their components, the 2021 Legion 5 Pro series laptops deliver a pro-level gaming performance. Ultra-powerful CPU and graphics meet the needs of even the most demanding gamers, especially when it comes to eSport games. Not only that, digital creators that can run Adobe Premiere and Photoshop on this machine without a snag.

We should also mention the 3D Nahimic Audio on the Legion 5 Pro, specifically designed for gamers. It offers an incredible high definition sound technology. The Nahimic audio boosts audio and voice performance of your gaming laptop for a crystal clear communication.

Connectivity Ports & Thermals

Legion 5 Pro comes with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) and Bluetooth 5.1. As to ports, the device has several that are distributed mainly on the back and on each side of the laptop. You’ll find one USB 3.2 port, one USB 3.2 Type-C port with a headphone combo jack, one HDMI 2.1 port, three USB 3.2 ports.

As we have mentioned, this laptop sports Lenovo’s Coldfront 3.0 innovation technology. Think of it as an intelligent system to increase an airflow (up 18%), to better manage fan noise and the heat generated by the computing power. Having the system run at lower temperatures will provide for an optimized performance and longer battery life. 

Lenovo Legion AI engine recognizes the multiple sensors placed on the CPU, GPU, side thermal vents, SSD memory card and more to send information about the thermal of your device in order to game for hours without overheating your system and compromising the performance. What’s more, you can control the fan speed and voltage with Q Control 4.0 to extend battery life.

Keyboard

Pictured above is a Legion 5 Pro with the TrueStrike Keyboard.

The Lenovo TrueStrike keyboard features soft-landing switches that deliver deeper strokes with equal force on every strike. The inputs have not changed from the standard Lenovo Legion 5 series. This is a full-size keyboard, available in different types of illumination, because of the RGB backlit technology.

Price & Availability

The Legion 5 Pro 16-inch models have yet to hit the US market and currently are not available online. They are however available on Asia Pacific markets for an equivalent of $1826 USD and up.
