One of the best business 2-in-1 laptops on the market.

ThinkPad Yoga X1 is a premium device regardless of how you decide to use it.

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 returned in 2020 with its 5th generation. Lenovo has made a few small changes to the latest model, including updated processors and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. This device remains one of the best business laptops in the convertible category thanks to its excellent display, multitude of business features, endurance, and more. Users can configure this laptop for a wide range of tasks. Earlier, we’ve also reviewed another Lenovo’s convertible: Lenovo Yoga 720 13”.

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 Gen 5: Pricing and Configurations

Lenovo offers multiple configurations of this convertible. The base model starts at $1,200 and comes with the 10th generation Intel® Core™ i5-10210U processor, 14.0″ FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS touchscreen display, integrated Intel® UHD graphics, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage.

On the upper end, you have a $2,300 model with the 10th generation Intel® Core™ i7-10610U processor with vPro™, 16GB RAM, 1 TB storage, 1-year premier onsite support, touchscreen display with Dolby Vision, and Intel® UHD Graphics. Users can mix and match the configurations to build their own customized ThinkPad Yoga X1.

Design

The 2020 design of Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 has remained largely unchanged from the previous year, when the company shifted from the carbon finish to the aluminum one. The laptop retains the red trim around the touchpad, a fingerprint sensor on the deck, as well as the red-illuminated “i” on the lid. The touchscreen display also folds over to transform the laptop into a tablet.

Lenovo includes a stylus with this model, which sits in a special slot on the right side of the laptop for safekeeping when you’re not using it. ThinkPad Yoga X1 also packs a sufficient number of ports. On the right, you’ll find a USB 3.2 Type-A port and a lock slot. On the left side, there are two Thunderbolt 3 ports, a second USB 3.2 Type-A port, an HDMI 1.4, a headphone/mic jack and a network extension connector.

Despite being a 14” laptop, this device weighs only roughly 3 lbs., which makes it highly portable and convenient.

Display

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 Gen 5 has several display variations depending on your needs. All displays are touch-enabled and have really good color and brightness levels. If the battery life is important, go for the 1920×1080 display. 4K option may drain the battery significantly.

If you’re a creative professional, then the 4K display is the best for you due to its superb image quality. The privacy guard is a useful feature to have if you work on sensitive information in public places.

Other Features

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 has good audio thanks to a unique quad-speaker setup. The laptop will deliver quality sound no matter in what mode you’re using it. There are two downward-facing speakers and two upward-facing ones. If you’re using the laptop in your lap or on the table, the speakers remain unmuffled. And, if you turn the laptop to stand mode, you will get the audio from the bottom-firing speakers as well.

One of the biggest selling points of the 2020 model is the Wi-Fi 6 module, which delivers very high transfer rates. It certainly outperforms the module in the 2019 model.
