Rumors, rumors—it seems as though Apple is getting a lot of leaks lately, doesn’t it? As frustrating as it may be to Apple’s executive team, it’s definitely good news for us. Especially if the rumors are about a shiny new version of the iPhone SE coming out very soon! As sketchy as most of these rumors are, everyone is hungry for details. Here’s what we know so far:
Design
Supposedly, the iPhone SE 2 is set to look similar to the iPhone 8, but with different dimensions. However, in a recent Chinese report published last February 2018, it is said that the new version still features the same design as its predecessor. The only improvement with regard to screen display is that it will have a 4.2-inch display, with dimensions of 123.8 mm by 58.6 mm. It is said to be 7.6 mm thick and weighing 113 grams. It will likely come in three colors, namely silver, gold, and space gray.
Specifications
This newer version of the cheaper iPhone variation will likely use an A10 Fusion chip instead of an A9, and it will carry a 2 GB RAM with 32 GB or 128 GB storage. It is also predicted to carry a 7MP FaceTime camera to replace the current model’s 5MP camera. It will still carry the 12MP back camera with the same aperture.
So what’s new? The iPhone SE 2 is rumored to have the Face ID feature—something everyone is excited to see on a low-cost iPhone. It is said to feature AirPower Qi wireless charging and an AirPod charging case as well. 3D touch is another possible addition. Its battery is also slightly more powerful than its predecessor, now at 1700 mAh.
Price
The iPhone SE was popular among Apple enthusiasts because of its more affordable price compared to other iPhones. Considering the old pricing of the current iPhone SE, which starts at $349, this new version is rumored to have a UK price of £399 for the 32 GB unit and £479 for the 129 GB unit. When, or if, it launches in the United States, it is expected to have similar pricing.
Release Date
The sad news is the iPhone SE 2 will only be available in limited locations, or so they say. Nevertheless, the rumor mill suggests that it will launch towards the end of the year 2018. Others also claim that it will first launch in India before it launches in other locations. If we are to expect official updates, we may have to wait until September this year.
Two years after the launch of the first iPhone SE back in March 2016, we are certainly hoping that this new one will once again cater to the low-cost market, but with better features. While it may not be a cheaper version of the coveted iPhone X, we definitely see some promising upgrades in terms of design and specifications.
