Facebook remains to be the king of social network sites. While the majority of the Generation Z prefer other social media channels (ex. Snapchat, Instagram), Facebook is still an incredibly important online platform. And this will continue for a long, long time.
Facebook is a hub for top engineering talents. As such, it’s easy to understand why the platform is one of the world’s most multi-faceted sites. It’s like a melting pot for several standalone apps. It offers a giant stack of customization features and tweaks available to registered users.
In fact, there are many “hidden” features on Facebook that you may not be aware of. And most of these things are functional with just a few clicks away. Below are some that you can play around with to make you a savvy Facebook user.
Snoop Catcher
You can actually find out who’s snooping on your Facebook account. You can check if someone logs into your account without your permission. To do this:
- Go to your Settings page.
- Tap Security.
- Find the “Where You’re Logged In” link. Click on it.
Here, you’ll find all of your active Facebook log-ins (desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.). The security feature generally provides specific data like the location, the device, and the browser. If you think someone opened your account without your consent, you can choose “End Activity” to log off from the susceptible device.
This feature is also useful if you used a friend’s laptop or a public computer and forgot to log out.
File Transfer via Messenger
Open your Facebook Messenger. At the bottom part, you’ll see a little paper clip icon. That seemingly mundane icon actually allows you to upload and send files straight from your desktop, laptop or handheld device. If you want to send assorted files (photos, videos, eBooks, etc.) to your friend, simply tap the paper clip icon, locate the files on your PC, and upload them. Your friend can simply click the link that will pop up on her screen to download the files.
Romance Timeline
Facebook can give you and your partner a detailed internet history of your romance through Facebook.com/us. Once you go to the site, you’ll be presented with a complete Facebook history of your relationship with whoever you listed as your partner. This is a good way of finding those TBT photos of you and your significant other.
Legacy Contact
In anticipation of your inevitable death, Facebook launched a feature called a “legacy contact.” As the name implies, the contact will inherit your account so s/he can manage it after you died. Your chosen legacy can write a pinned post and update your profile and cover photo. However, s/he won’t have full access to your messages. To assign a legacy contact, simply:
- Go to Settings.
- Choose General.
- Tap Manage Account.
- Tap Legacy Contact.
- Choose your legacy.
You can also assign your contact to delete your account once you’re gone.
These are just a few examples of the many things you can do on Facebook. Explore the social network site to find more.
