LG Unveils the Smart Fridge: the First Fridge that Uses Windows 10

A lot of spotlight is always trained on the rivalry between Samsung and Apple, but did you know that Samsung has always gone head to head with LG as well? Considering the fact that they are two of the biggest companies in Korea, it’s understandable how hard they’ve been trying to outdo each other in terms of their products.

One example of this is the fact that LG has unveiled yet another thing that evidently outdoes Samsung’s last release. See, Samsung recently released the Family Hub, which is a refrigerator that comes with a 21.5-inch display. It’s basically a fridge with a built-in tablet.

So here’s how LG is responding.

The LG Smart InstaView Door-in-Door Refrigerator

Introducing the LG Smart InstaView door-in-door refrigerator. It’s even better than the Samsung Family Hub, and has made a lot of people, LG and Samsung enthusiasts alike, holding their breaths in anticipation.

Here are a few things experts that sell electronics have told us to expect:

  • A 29-inch semi-transparent touchscreen

This LG fridge allows you to take a peek into what’s inside your fridge without even having to open it. It may seem like a regular opaque door, but once activated, it immediately becomes a window into the fridge’s contents.

  • Windows 10

Yes, this fridge’s display does not just allow you to take a peek inside it. It also lets you do pretty much everything else you can do with a Windows 10-powered device. It even comes with Cortana, making the entire experience as real as possible.

  • Tweak the screen’s view

For those who are still unimpressed, especially when it comes to the semi-transparent door, here’s something that could pique your attention. You can actually change the screen modes, allowing you to add different overlays to the screen. You can add virtual post-it notes, for example. You can even mark different sections of your fridge, tagging one side as the area where your organic food is stored, while leaving the other half as a place where your brother can keep all his junk food.

And that’s just the beginning. It seems that LG has a few more tricks up its sleeve, and we’re guessing that no matter what other functions they’ll be adding, this has already been added to a lot of people’s wish lists.

Release Date and Price

As with a lot of other unbelievable things that we hope to have, there is no date set on when this amazing piece of appliance will be available. One thing’s for sure though – it’s going to be unbelievably expensive as well. The Samsung Family Hub is available for $4,000, so this would probably be around the same price range, maybe just a bit higher.

Do you need it? A lot of people would most certainly believe that they need a fridge like this in their kitchen. But is it worth it? That’s something that you’re going to have to think about. $4,000 is no joke, but it’s definitely the right price for a taste of awesomeness in your kitchen.
