With only a couple weeks to go before the unveiling of the iPhone 7, the news about it floating around acts mainly to improve or dispel rumors instead of offer new ones.
Mac Otaka, a Japanese website, is debunking accounts that Apple will expand its portfolio by launching an iPhone 7 Pro version of the basic iPhone 7 and upsize iPhone 7 Plus. Leaked pictures released a few weeks ago on various tech websites gave the impression of three iPhone 7 models. However, according to recent sources, it appears as if Apple will stick with just two versions of the iPhone 7.
Design Rumors
In recent years, Apple has presented alternate major updates yearly between design improvements and modest updates. This pattern is likely to change this year. There’s a general consensus among experts and vendors who sell iPhones, backed by numerous unofficial ‘pics and vids’ leaked in the past months. And that is that for its second year now, with consumers most likely seeing mainly small, superficial improvements.
The rumors began back in April, implying that the iPhone 7 might not deliver a lot of interesting selling points. After that, consumers have seen a series of leaks appearing to back up the scene that the outer design will appear much like the existing units, but with better antenna lines and perhaps a marginally thinner profile. However, the base design has switched to a 32GB memory instead of the usual 16GB, powering a 32/64/256GB option.
One contentious change people are anticipating is for Apple to remove the smartphone’s 3.5mm headphone plug, depending instead on either Lightning headphones or handheld Bluetooth headsets. It has been previously noted that Apple was developing wireless earbuds, however, it’s still unclear if the company intends to release those along the iPhone 7.
Ditching the headphone jack could also provide room for another speaker grille that has appeared on other leaked pictures. If the rumors are true, the iPhone 7 will be the first smartphone model with authentic stereo sound.
Pro is Out?
Probably the most significant change still in play could be the inclusion of the rumored third “Pro” version. Leaked photos of the iPhone 7 Pro first appeared online in July on Nowhereelse.fr. But the latest rumors have implied that Apple will most likely offer only two traditional versions of the iPhone 7.
The iPhone 7 Plus – or even the Pro – appears set to present a dual-camera setup. It seems that the smaller unit will not get this upgrade, though a bigger lens revealed in leaked photos indicates some type of camera improvement. Some reports stated the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 might even have image stabilization, a feature previously offered on the larger 5.5-inch units.
Because the iPhone 7 predominantly changes feature-modest upgrades, significant news is few and far between. But experts still expect the company to officially introduce the iPhone 7 in the first week of September. The retail release date will likely be on either September 16 or 23.
