iPhone 8: Coming in 2017

With all the fuss over the iPhone 7 slated to be released this year, people may be missing out on even bigger news about something that could be happening next year. It’s not about the competition, and it’s definitely not about any product recalls.

It’s all about the iPhone 8 that will probably be released in 2017.

What? Another iPhone? Yup, we hear you. After hearing experts that sell iPhones tell us that Apple will probably move to a cycle where they will only sell new hardware once in every 3 years, this definitely comes as a big surprise.

A Radical Redesign

For a really long time now, Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, has dreamed of releasing an iPhone that looks like a single sheet of glass. And if they play their cards right, it looks like this is going to be possible in 2017.

The iPhone 8 is rumored to have an edge-to-edge display, and will be using a flexible OLED instead of the usual LCD. This means the probability of an even thinner device and the possibility of longer battery power. After all, one of the greatest features of an OLED display is its ability to consume far less power than an LCD screen.

A glass body is said to be the biggest change yet, as Apple has always stuck to their aluminum body. This will be similar to the glass body used in the iPhone 4 series.

The Name Game

Of course, people may raise their eyebrows at this news. After all, if we follow Apple’s usual pattern, the next series that people should be watching out for after this year’s iPhone 7 would be the iPhone 7S series.

But then again, we have seen a few radical decisions being made over at the Apple HQ, like the surprising release of the iPhone SE earlier this year. Now, that’s one thing that nobody ever anticipated. Seeing this change in pattern, it is actually possible that Apple skips the iPhone 7S series and jumps straight into the iPhone 8 instead.

At the end of the day, it’s just a name. The iPhone 8 may very well be released as the iPhone 7S, too. What’s more important to focus on here is the fact that the radical changes that people have been craving for may happen by next year.

Making the Decision

With this bit of news, the next decision to make would be whether to buy the iPhone 7 or wait for the iPhone 8. This could get a bit tricky, knowing that there have been dozens of rumors about the iPhone before that never became a reality.

For now, let’s just wait for the iPhone 7 to be released and see what people are going to say about it. Watch out for any bugs that first owners would be reporting, and see if it would all be worth the switch. If you feel that it’s not worth it, then might as well wait and see if the iPhone 8 rumor proves to be true.
