It has definitely happened to you at some point. You find yourself deleting a few things from your devices by accident, and there is often very little that you can do as you realize the huge mistake a few seconds after hitting that dreaded delete button.
This is why it’s not unusual for technicians that fix and sell electronics to have customers demanding to have some of the files and data brought back from the pits of deletion.
For Apple users however, a lot of things can be fixed. After all, they did invent some of the coolest gadgets there are on the planet. So it’s only expected for them to figure out that humans make mistakes sometimes, and it’s up to their system to make sure that these mistakes can be corrected.
This is where the recovery option for the iCloud comes in handy.
Recovering Deleted Files through iCloud
Yup, your iPhone, iPad, or other Apple gadgets are probably telling you that those files are gone forever. But then again, that’s the beauty of the cloud. Your physical gadget may have lost it, but it’s up in the
cloud somewhere, waiting for someone to recover them.
Here’s how you do it:
Launch your web browser and go to iCloud.com.
Login using your Apple ID and password.
Go to Settings and look under Advanced.
On the bottom left corner, click or tap on ‘Restore Files’.
Check the boxes beside the files that you want to recover. If you want to restore everything, you can also click on ‘Select All’.
Click on ‘Restore Files’.
After completing these steps, you can go back to the folders where you last placed the files you accidentally deleted, and you’ll find that they’re back right where they’re supposed to be.
The same process is applied if you’re trying to recover contacts and calendar entries. All you need to do is click ‘Restore Contacts’ or ‘Restore Files.
Note however, that deleted files will only stay in your iCloud for 30 days. Beyond that, they will be permanently erased with no further option for recovery. You would also have to remember that in restoring your calendars, you may also lose anything that you added after those entries were deleted as they would overwrite the current calendar data that you have.
Recovering Photos through iCloud
Recovering photos and videos is also possible through iCloud.
Here’s how you can do it:
Login to your iCloud account online.
Click on Photos, then click on Albums.
Go to the ‘Recently Deleted’ album and select Photos.
Start choosing the photos that you want to recover.
Click on the Recover button.
And just like that, your missing photos and videos will finally be back on your Camera Roll or in its designated album once again.
As long as you backup your devices regularly, you shouldn’t worry about losing any of your files permanently. It would also be great if you can check on your iCloud every so often so that you can see if there are any files that were deleted accidentally without you knowing it and you can recover them before the 30-day limit is up.
