Internal file sharing has long been an element of the Windows operating system. However, it’s just with the release of Windows 10 that Microsoft has presented its users the ability to share their files with local accounts and with the world, all from just a single place.
Read on as we explore the “Share” feature of Windows OS version 10.
The Three Choices
As soon as you choose the “Share” tab via the File Explorer, you will be presented with a variety of options and tools that will make file sharing straight from your PC considerably faster than before.
In the top left corner of the Fire Explorer window are three options on how to share your files from your computer with a single click. These choices are Share, Email, and Zip.
1. Share
If you’ve used Windows 8.1 before, the Share prompt is a familiar sight to you.
When the Share tab is chosen, the ever-present “Share Charm” will roll out from the right side of your PC. This is where you’ll see the various social options that you have based on the apps you have installed from the Windows Store.
For as long as you are logged into your account, it’s possible to directly share any multimedia file you have downloaded or saved, or even those you edited yourself using your computer. With the Share option, you no longer need a web browser or an added email client required.
2. Email
The next sharing option is via Email.
To get started, you must make sure that you have a desk-based email client that is compatible with Windows 10. Good examples of these are MS Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. Install the one you want and set it up as your default handler of your email requests. To do this, simply:
Go to the “Settings” menu.
Click “System.”
Scroll down and look for the “Default Apps” tab.
Click “Set defaults by app.”
Run the list of email applications you’ve downloaded beforehand.
Select the app you want.
Open the link the states “Choose defaults for this program.
When you’re able to link this to the email client you’ve chosen, the email icon of Fire Explorer will light-up. From there, you can automatically send photos, videos, and files to your email contacts.
3. Zip
For bigger files that can be a challenge for a standard email client, Microsoft integrated a useful compression resource in the Share tab. This resource can easily reduce the size of any files you need to share. To create a .zip file, simply:
Choose the files you want to compress.
Click the Zip icon at the top right corner of the Fire Explorer window.
Rename the archive of the main directory to avoid confusion.
This sharing option is handy for users who have to send out packed folders from one email address to another.
As per experts who sell electronics can attest, file sharing has always been a fairly easy task to accomplish. Thanks to Windows 10, the process is now faster and a lot easier.
